The World Baseball Classic is the premier international baseball tournament, featuring the best professional and amateur players as they represent their home countries. After a six-year hiatus, it was our job to remind baseball fans everywhere what makes this event so special.
We started by creating a series of “Behind the Flag” short documentaries to tell the stories of lesser-known players and teams.
The Czech Republic film, covering the underdog’s improbable run to qualify for their first-ever WBC appearance, generated earned media attention and over 4 million views and 7 million impressions across all platforms. The Czech team captured the hearts of fans and fellow competitors alike, with their hats selling out worldwide after Shohei Ohtani was spotted wearing one. This film, the first one below, was awarded a Silver Clio for Film and a Bronze Clio for Athlete Storytelling.
Play Loud is our weekly mic’d up series, and we created a special episode for the WBC featuring players from the USA, Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico.
We also created an episode of Quick Question (our explainer series) for every new fan asking “What’s the deal with the World Baseball Classic?”
And we worked with our friends at VCCP New York to create a brand spot for the WBC, featuring a custom track from baseball superfan and international recording superstar Daddy Yankee.
